As promised, here are my presentation notes for Urethral Sounds 101. If you have any specific questions, please don’t hesitate to send me an email.

DomCon Atlanta 10/10/2009 1:30 / Chardonnay Room

Let’s get started

Sounds sets come in a couple of varieties, for beginners, I recommend Rosebuds and Dittles sets. When you are completely confident in your use of those, you can graduate to Pratts. They cost about $90 a set.

Sterilization v Sanitation and/or Disinfection

Disinfection:

Before and after use I recommend a cold soak, I use Bio-Tool, it’s cheap, and it’s effective. It kills down to the TB, HIV virus. As well as being effective, and cheap, it’s environmentally friendly.

You can also use a 10% solution of chlorine bleach with the same effect.

Cavicide is a product made for hospital use as a surface disinfectant decontaminant cleaner. It’s bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal, tuberculocidal, and more. After wiping it on, I leave it sit for around 10 to 15 minutes, and then bathe the sounds in warm water to remove the Cavicide. Usually two or more turnovers of the water just to be on the safe side.

Boiling for the recommended 20 minutes is considered a high degree of disinfection but still not sterilization.

If the sounds set you are using is meant for one person only, sanitation/disinfection is typically sufficient for a single person use, but to be on the safe side, true sterilization is your best bet.

Sterilization:

After disinfecting/sanitizing, place sounds in a Peel Pac, place in a pressure cooker on a rack, about an inch of distilled water in the bottom and pressure cook for 12-15 minutes. Allow the pressure cooker to cool completely. Remove the Peel Pac and place on a rack to dry. It’s okay that they are a little wet, they will dry. Check the indicator on the peel pack, it will change to ensure you have appropriately sterilized your toys. This process also works for other toys such as speculums, or other surgical stainless toys

Use of an autoclave is also a preferred method for sterilization. There are many kink friendly piercers that may agree to run your sounds through if you provide your own Peel Pac.

Once sterilized there is no need to remove them from the peel pack, so long as they remain sealed, they will remain sterile. Don’t return them to the case, and don’t open them until you’re ready to use them

Getting Started:

Thoroughly wash your hands and fingernails using a nail brush and an antibacterial hand soap. You can also use Betodyne. Pat hands dry with a clean towel and put on your sterile exam gloves. I typically avoid latex gloves since some people have latex allergies. Get your equipment together.

Sterile Sugilube

Polysporin

Sterile 4×4 gauze pads

Chux

Betodyne

Sounds set, still in its Peel Pac

Make sure your sub is freshly showered and has emptied his bladder.

Once everything is together, prepare the cock with a disinfecting towelette or Betodyne solution and change your gloves to a fresh, sterile pair.

Now you can open your Peel Pac!

Anatomy:

Palpate the base of the cock and find the urethral valve at the opening of the prostate. For beginning sounds play, you don’t want to go beyond this point.

Technique:

Support the cock with your ‘wrong’ hand, thumb positioned at the base at the valve, you want to keep track of this spot, forefinger a few inches above three fingers supporting the other side. The goal here is to keep the cock upright. It’s not necessary for the sub to have an erection, it’s a great sensation either way.

Run the first inch or so through the Polysporin then through the Surgilube. Introduce it to the urethral opening, holding it perpendicular to the cock. NEVER push or force the sounds, let gravity do its thing. You can usually feel it slowly sinking in. When you feel it reach the base you can use your thumb to prevent it from going further. You can slowly extract it and let it fall again. When your sub is ready, graduate to the next size and repeat.

This is a process of stretching the urethra. Go slow, there is no rush. Check in often with your sub, find out how he’s doing. The amazing thing about sounds ans stretching is that the urethra will return to normal after a few days and it’s will be more receptive to further stretching in subsequent sounding sessions. Again, SLOW is what it’s all about. Sounding sessions are typically long and drawn out and should never be rushed.

Aftercare:

I recommend that you have your sub abstain from alcohol for at least 24 hours following s sounding session. Water intake should be about 8-12oz an hour for the next 4-6 hours. I give my subs cranberry tablets to take for the couple of days. I’ve never had a sub report back to me that he contracted a UTI following a session and most, if they follow my recommendations report little to no burning with urination in the 24 hours following the session.

Resources:

I was IMing with a friend last night and we were tossing S&M themed haiku back and forth . He is of the opinion that the only correct format is the 3 line 5-7-5 format, the first line is five syllables, the second a total of seven syllables and the third five again. This format seriously limited my efforts at successful haiku.

wikiHow offers the following: “A haiku is an unrhyming verse genre, conveying an image or feeling in two parts spread over three lines, usually with a seasonal reference. Haiku in Japanese is written in a single vertical line with seventeen sound units or mora (not strictly the same as syllables) in a rhythm of five, seven, and five. In English (a stressed language), the ideas can be expressed with a short line, a long line, and another short line, usually in fewer than seventeen syllables. It is a sort of urban myth that haiku in English should be 5-7-5 syllables.” AH HA! I knew I was needlessly hobbled in my efforts!

Well, purist or not, here is one from last night.

The crack of my whip,

your muffled cries sing to me,

you long for my touch.

Okay readers, I’m challenging you, share your S&M themed haiku. Jon suggested I make an contest of it, though I’m not certain what an appropriate prize will be, or how the challenge will be judged, but let’s see what happens.

Goodbye & Good Luck

Since I relocated to Atlanta in 2004 I’ve been aware of this event, Dragon*Con. I have actually actively avoided Downtown Atlanta during the long Labor Day weekend, primarily because a bunch of geeks celebrating, World of Warcraft, SciFi fandom, and what I perceived to be a gamers orgy just didn’t appeal to me. Seriously, four MAJOR hotels catering to these people? I think I’ll pass, thank you.

A very good friend of mine, Ms. Martha, is vending this weekend at the ‘Con’. She generously offered me a pair of passes and encouraged me to come and at least check it out for a bit. It’s a short walk from my studio and Saturday morning, my SO, grimjacx (ironic, I know) headed over in time to watch the parade. I spent much of the time asking, “who’s that supposed to be?”, though I did ‘get’ the classic Star Wars characters, most of the time I was beyond lost. Following the parade we headed into the Marriott Marquee and wandered about… okay, wander is being generous, I heard an unconfirmed stat that there was approximately 50-70,000 people in attendance on Saturday, so it was more like squeezing your way through the crowd.

The lobbies of the hotels are transformed into what can only best be described as a gigantic photo op. And for a damn good reason… Costumes! Amazing Costumes. Super heroes, SciFi characters, fairies, wizards, aliens, Ghost Busters, Hello Kitty themed Storm Troopers, Jedi Knights, Harry Potters, mad scientists, you name it, it was there. And most of it, after grimjacx patiently explained it to me, I got. But there was one trend I just don’t get… Steam Punk. What the hell is that? I’m mean seriously? If you know, will you tell me? Only one thing came to mind as I saw them milling about, that terrible movie that was based on the TV show Wild-Wild-West. The funky goggles, the gadgets and the like.

We headed home late in the afternoon, took a much needed break before changing into some appropriate fetish wear and headed back out for the night. I in a full skirt and vested corset, grimjacx in jeans, leather chaps, tight tank and leather and chain harness. We caught up with some friends and milled about, they, armed with a camera, posing with the different costumed party goers. I was a little surprised when I was stopped on numerous occasions by folks asking permission to snap my photo. I’m fairly certain it was the power of my ample cleavage that drew some attention.

We had so much fun that we went back today with grimjacx’s daughter, Miss “f”. We sat in on a discussion panel featuring the cast of Buffy & Angel, spent some time enjoying the artist displays and took the time to meet the creators and illustrators of a few comic books.

I am most certainly retuning next year, I’m already planning my costume, some sort of Dominatrix super hero!

There are few resources in the Lifestyle where one can find useful information and ask questions about what laws may affect what we do. Particularly as a professional Dominatrix, I have to be very careful about the activities I engage in with my clients. For obvious legal and moral reasons, I don’t engage in anything that might be considered prostitution as set out by the laws on the books in my area.

I’m particularly pleased that a dear friend, and kink friendly attorney, has launched a new website, Kink Friendly Law, that covers many of the topics important to me and other pros as well as those that could come into play for Lifestyle players. For example, in GA and many other states, one can not willingly agree to being assaulted. So, what happens when you play hard and your bottom/sub has regrets and turns to the authorities? It does happen, more often than you might imagine.

My sincere thanks to sled for launching this website.

Okay, I admit it, I have a few guilty pleasures. We all have a few of those little things we might not want to admit to for fear we’ll be judged harshly. TLC’s “18 Kids & Counting” happens to be one of mine. I can’t begin to explain why, maybe its because this family is the EXACT opposite if my life, or perhaps I occasionally need a dose of good, old fashioned, wholesome in my life, but no matter the reason, I am a fan.

Yesterday the Duggar’s announced that Michelle, who will be 43 on the 13th of this month, is expecting their 19th child in March of 2010. NINETEEN? Seriously? I was actually both excited and shocked by this news. And, it got me to thinking; how is it they have managed to bring 18, seemingly beautiful, happy, healthy, humans into this world with out so much as a minor birth defect? It’s really amazing. I also wonder, at what point do they decide enough?

Carry on Duggars, with your homespun wholesomeness, financial advice, organizational skills and over the top modesty. I will keep watching, I can’t help myself.

BDSM is a pretty large umbrella, it covers a myriad of fetishes, if you don’t believe me, take a look at the list of fetishes on BDSM websites like FetLife.com. There are well over 500 different fetishes listed on the site from Abduction to Zentai Yeah, I had to look that last one up too.

Like many in the lifestyle, I have a number of favorite fetishes, and some I just don’t get. What makes one hot may make anther squick. I’d say most of my fetishes are pretty straight forward and a natural extension of my natural dominance. And occasionally, even after 15 years in this lifestyle, I get introduced to something new that I may have overlooked and not given much previous thought toward.

So, what makes me wet? In a word, bondage. Complete, inescapable, uncomfortable, you’re at my mercy and going nowhere, bondage. I use a number of methods to accomplish this, straight jacket, cuffs, vet wrap, leather, cling wrap and rope. Ah, rope… in particular, hemp, with its unique scent, rough texture and beautiful natural color.

I love rope because it’s so versatile, if you can think it up, you can probably make it happen with a decent length of hemp. There is nothing like seeing a submissive belly down on the floor in a crudely knotted hog tie or the beauty of intricately tied predicament bondage, my victim partially suspended in a crane pose, desperately balanced on tip-toe trying not to tighten the noose around his vulnerable cock and balls. It’s the suff my wet dreams are made of.

How about you, what does it for you?

I learned a valuable lesson about patience last month. If you had the opportunity to visit my old website, you know I was well overdue for something that better matched my particular brand of domination. I hired a wonderful website designer to create a new website for me. We met in late June for our initial planning meeting; she interviewed me, toured my studio, and took the time to really understand me, and my style. At the conclusion of the meeting we set a launch date for August 1st. I got busy and set up the photo shoots (I’ll write a post about the photographer and my shoots another time) and got my content together, I was sooo excited about the new site. And then, the waiting began.

The proposed launch date came and went, but no website. Anther week, no website. I got a little frantic, but kept the faith. A third week… oh my. My designer, as it turns out, is a perfectionist. She wanted to be sure I would be happy, she was very thorough and made certain that this site would represent not only me, but my style. I must say, it was certainly worth the wait! The website is far better than I could have imagined it would be.

If you haven’t already, take a look at my website, I LOVE it! And, thank you, Tori, for creating a beautiful website that truly does represent me and my style.
